Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, also known as UHMWPE or UPE, refers to linear polyethylene with an average molecular weight exceeding 1.5 million. Also known as high-strength and high modulus polyethylene fiber. Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber, along with carbon fiber and aramid, is known as one of the three high-performance fibers. It is currently the fiber with the highest specific strength and bulletproof performance among industrialized fiber materials.

UHMWPE fiber has excellent properties such as high strength and high modulus, impact resistance, wear resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, and light resistance. Its specific strength is equivalent to 15 times that of high-quality steel wire, 1.8 times that of carbon fiber, and 1.6 times that of aramid. It has ultra-low elongation at break, high energy absorption rate, softness and bendability, and low density compared to water. UHMWPE fiber is as thin as paper and as hard as steel. Bulletproof and explosion-proof helmets made of resin composite materials reinforced with this fiber have become alternatives to steel helmets and aramid reinforced composite helmets.
